Allocating printers to users via Static QuickCodes has been a well-loved feature of directprint.io for some time. Customers love using QuickCodes but in some cases want more control over how they're used.
We have now introduced a new feature called Dynamic QuickCodes which can be accessed here.
Dynamic QuickCodes are made up of three sub-types:
- Fixed expiry, where the QuickCode has a validity window, ideal for conference printer access, for example.
- Duration access, where a QuickCode grants access to one or more printers for a specific duration e.g. 1 hour at a time.
- Single-use, where a QuickCode can be used once only, think voucher.
Fixed Expiry
Example Use Case:
As an IT administrator, I am responsible for ensuring print capabilities are provided to guests for my organization's conference for one week and one week only so that guests are unable to access printers once the conference has ended.
How?
Fixed expiry QuickCodes allow users to add printers by entering a 5 character alpha-numeric code in the directprint.io app.
The printers allocated via the fixed expiry QuickCode will expire from the user's printer list at the specified expiry date and time.
Duration Access
Example Use Case:
As a teacher, I want to allocate printers to students for a given duration, so that when the class ends the students no longer have access to the printers, and reusing the same code will not allow the students to re-add the printers. When a new class of students arrives, I want to be able to distribute a new QuickCode that gives access to the same list of printers as my previous class.
How?
Duration access QuickCodes allow users to add printers by entering a 6 digit numeric code in the directprint.io app.
The 6 digit code must be generated using the Google Authenticator App through the scanning of a QR code or entry of an authentication key.
Codes are changed every 30 seconds and cannot be reused.
Single-Use
Example Use Case:
As an IT administrator, I want to ensure that my specialized printers are only available to users when a special request has been made so that I can closely control access to these specialized printers.
How?
Single-use QuickCodes can be used once and once only. They cannot be used by multiple users or by the same user twice.
