New features:
- Account Codes - Prompt every time
End users can now be prompted to enter an accounting code for every print job submitted. More information about how to configure this can be found here https://support.directprint.io/hc/en-gb/articles/4406428412951
-
Dynamic QuickCodes
Dynamic QuickCodes are made up of three sub-types:
- Fixed expiry, where the QuickCode has a validity window, ideal for conference printer access, for example.
- Duration access, where a QuickCode grants access to one or more printers for a specific duration e.g. 1 hour at a time.
- Single-use, where a QuickCode can be used once only, think voucher.

Improvements:
- Edge Print
It's now possible to attempt to route jobs via the local network before falling back to print via the cloud:
- Always route jobs via Edge Print (default) - This mode will send all print jobs for Edge-enabled printers via the cloud regardless of whether the user has direct IP connectivity to the printer.
- Attempt local printing first, fall back to Edge Print - This mode will attempt to send all print jobs for Edge-enabled printers directly, if local/direct printing fails, then the print job will be sent via the cloud.
Please see the last section in this support article to discover how to enable configure this setting. - Always route jobs via Edge Print (default) - This mode will send all print jobs for Edge-enabled printers via the cloud regardless of whether the user has direct IP connectivity to the printer.
- Redundancy - You can now have multiple Edge Nodes logged in on the same Edge Account to provide redundancy. The Edge Nodes must have network connectivity to their assigned printers. The ability to define Multiple nodes is coming.
- Multiple Accounts - You can now set up multiple Edge Print Accounts. This is useful when you want a dedicated account to handle print jobs for a specific location as an example.
Bugfix:
- Fix relating to resource appearing offline network layer wake on LAN fix.

New features:
- Streaming print mode: By default pages are sent when they are ready to be consumed by the printer, this is a major change vs the original prepare-all -> send all model. The result is that print send speed has increased significantly.
- PostScript encoder memory reduction. PostScript printing now requires a fraction of the printer memory it did before. For example HP LJ 3015p no longer gives ‘out of memory’ errors when using PostScript.
- PCLm support - driver now supports PCLm compatible printing.
- directprint.io connection test, ‘Settings and Client info’ contains a connection test to directprint.io services.
- Hardware copies are now automatically activated wherever possible. Manual copies is the exception, the ‘Hardware copies’ option will shortly be removed from directprint.io admin panel.
- Feature trials available in this version - please contact support if you would like to trial these features.
- Print bridge mode (origin trial only). Customers with ‘DMZ’ Chromebooks can now use a print bridge to proxy print requests from the DMZ Chromebook/edipoint network to a printer LAN.
- Support for receipt printers: Star TSP100iii (ethernet), Epson T88v (USB)
- Support for Dymo Wireless label writer
Bugfixes:
- Aggressive backgrounding of Chrome extensions in Chrome. Eliminated print/preview failures due to app script backgrounding.
- Missing printer lists - fixed due to backgrounding issue.

Note 1:
On the first run (any only 1st run) users may have to reselect the printer from the ‘See more’ printers dropdown option in the Chrome print dialog.
Uses will likely experience the Chrome printer spinner on screen for about 10 seconds before the printer list becomes available.
The last used printer and the list of commonly used printers will likely have been removed or if still present, when selected cause the client to select ‘Save As PDF’ from the short dropdown menu in the print preview.
Steps to resolve: Select ‘See more’ and reselect the printer from the long printer list to resolve any issues.
This change is due to internal printer IDs changing within the software to avoid potential ID clashes (security).
User journey outlined below:
|
|
Step 1 - spinner (< 10 seconds) |
Step 2 - reselect printer from ‘See more…’ |
